𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐒

“𝑀𝑦 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑑𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑦𝑒𝑑 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑜𝑓 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤𝑙𝑒𝑑𝑔𝑒. 𝐵𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤𝑙𝑒𝑑𝑔𝑒, 𝐼 𝑎𝑙𝑠𝑜 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑟𝑒𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑏𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑀𝑒; 𝐵𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑜𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑤 𝑜𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝐺𝑜𝑑, 𝐼 𝑎𝑙𝑠𝑜 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑛.” Hosea 4:6.

The Bible verse above shows us that believers don’t perish due to lack of power but the lack of knowledge, and that lack of knowledge usually gets spawned by ignorance. It takes the messages of this nature to confront one’s ignorance, which then guarantees you full deliverance. Apostle Paul wrote a letter to the church of Corinth in the book of 1 Corinthians 12:1-10; he taught them about spiritual gifts. This should show that it is possible for one to be a believer and still have no knowledge of spiritual gifts; you can walk with the Lord and still be ignorant of spiritual gifts. One of the spiritual gifts is 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑠.

Discerning spirit is not a gut feeling, instinct, or intuition, so if this doesn’t define discerning of spirit. In the book of 1 Corinthians 12:10, it says, ” 𝑇𝑜 𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑚𝑖𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑙𝑒𝑠; 𝑡𝑜 𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑒𝑐𝑦; 𝑡𝑜 𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑠; 𝑡𝑜 𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡𝑜𝑛𝑔𝑢𝑒𝑠; 𝑡𝑜 𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑡𝑜𝑛𝑔𝑢𝑒𝑠.” By the position of discerning of spirits according to the construction of this verse, we find a clue about the definition of discernment. 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 is the ability to:

1.⁠ ⁠Distinguish what is genuinely from God and what is not.
2.⁠ ⁠⁠Discern the truth from error 3.⁠ ⁠⁠The faculty of your spiritual perception.
4.⁠ ⁠⁠The divine ability to judge things of the spirit.
5.⁠ ⁠⁠The ability to see what the spirit realm is imposing into the physical realm.

𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒊𝒇𝒕 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒏? It was given so that believers could distinguish if a message or a messenger was from God.

It took the spirit of discernment (an ability to distinguish what was genuinely coming from God or not) in the book of Acts 16:16-18 for Paul to know that though what the damsel was saying sounded like it was coming from the Lord, and it could potentially bring more souls to the Lord, it was sponsored by a spirit of divination. In this dispensation, the gift of discerning of spirits is more needed than ever before, and one of the reasons that makes believers not move in this gift is prayerlessness.

Oh, God, unlock the spirit of God in me so that I do not go into the future blind. Help me, Lord Jesus, so that I do not become ignorant of the devil’s devices and methods. May the gift of discerning of spirits not be dormant in me but be operational in Jesus name. I receive the ability to see, to sense, and to feel in the spirit in the name of Jesus. 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐈𝐒 𝐒𝐎!
